Toxic Trends

Media is always influencing us, no matter what we do. We can't avoid its consequences, no matter the circumstance or how pointless it seems, and recent trends or "memes" are here to prove that. Tide pods are known as just a form of laundry detergent, but now to the media they are known as "a forbidden snack." As pointless and ignorant as it sounds, nowadays people will do anything they see on social media, so we need to be more cautious about what we consider a trend and "joke"about on the web.
Obviously, anyone in their right mind would not consume tide pods, but with the media having so many members of the youth, anyone would do anything for attention/views. These trends of "forbidden snacks" involve inanimate objects being desired to be eaten by people simply because of their look, and tide pods is the most well-known of this trend. Trends like these are simply supposed to be comedic, and personally I think they are funny as well, but to people not in a smart state of mind, these trends can be toxic fast.
For views, people would do the unspeakable to attract a larger following. Videos are spread all over media with people shaving their heads, eyebrows, drinking soap, and eating tide pods, all for a quick laugh or even just a like. Trends like these are toxic, whether we'd like to believe it or not. I don't like taking these things very seriously because I am like everyone else and I find humor in these pointless things, but when digging deep into the trends we are creating, I realize how stupid and dangerous the reality of these trends are.
In my opinion, people should not do ignorant things for views if it affects them more in the long run. Why risk the potential health problems of consuming toxins from laundry detergent when you could mind your own business and find new ways of entertainment. I will continue to laugh at these memes, but never will I be ignorant enough to attempt one myself.

Advertisement Visuals and our Brain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLwMqcs_NZA&app=desktop Target, is a well-known brand that we all know and love, including myself. But even Target follows the same marketing techniques that all companies share, convincing us to buy their product by over embellishing what the product is and giving us a sense of community and visuals we can relate to that make us want to invest in them. Target's approach to this common technique though, is one that I find very interesting and unique. A trend you can find in Target's advertisements is the use of pretty and colorful visuals that give off an aesthetic-like vibe. In the Back to School ad (link above) Target color coordinates certain parts of their ad using the technique known as "Gestalt:Subliminal Persuasion"  by using oddness and intensity of color to exaggerate the product and put our minds into a surreal type of world. The angle of the camera which constantly revolves around only showing the key components of the ...

Reflection

Blog after blog, week after week, I am forced to finally sit down and reflect on all of my decisions in the media and what media means to me. As we are all very aware of, media is around us everywhere, are more than I'd like to admit it has in some ways taken over my life completely. We are all under the influence over what society brings us, and media is the most common form of getting these messages across to us. Personally, I consume media several hours a day. Sometimes during school, sometimes in the middle of schoolwork, and definitely as soon as I get home or right before I'm about to go to sleep. I think nothing of it, but I do think it is messing with my brain in both positive and negative ways. When consuming media, I feel updated and knowledgable about the world around me, and connected to society and people I know in real life. But, sometimes when I'm on media, I feel pressured to fulfill a certain standard, to be someone I'm not in order to be accepted by ot...

Two Perspectives: NFL Protesting

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/11/28/trump-america-is-fed-up-with-nfl-national-anthem-protests.html https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/24/sports/nfl-trump-anthem-protests.html On the topic of NFL protests in recent media, Fox News and NY times have created articles on the same topic addressing Trump blasting NFL players for taking the knee during the national anthem.  NY Times' foundation of their article was about how teammates/players still stand strong and united despite insults from U.S. President Donald Trump. According to NY Times, " The protests were part of a massive show of solidarity in the face of harsh criticism by President Trump, who had called for protesting players to be fired." On Trump's Twitter account, on September 24th 2017, he tweets, " Sports fans should never condone players that do not stand proud for their National Anthem or their Country. NFL should change policy!" The response from NFL players, however, was ultimately send...
