Our biggest influencers in the media

With mass followings of millions, the world has access to every part of these multi-million dollar rappers lifestyles and every-day activities, especially from those of our youth. In the past, there were several people the children of their time could look up to, people with admirable and inspirational lifestyles and story to inspire and motivate the youth to become who they wanted to be and pursue their goals. But, times have changed-and not for the better. Rappers such as Lil Pump, XXXTentacion, 21 Savage and many, many more, have overtaken our old role models in the media and have became the newest "influencers" our youth have to look up to.
You'd expect any average singer, or rapper, to have creative, meaningful lyrics, and at least some vocal capability, but the harsh reality of rappers nowadays is that none of this is apparent. Lyrics from a shocking majority of modern day rappers glamorize the use of drugs, and post several photos on social media of them abusing them. They also over-sexualize women and have several lyrics glorifying sex and other explicit terms. The vocals these "rappers" present are hardly even comprehendible, showing to the youth that talent and creativity is not necessary to succeed in life, taking away creative aspects of many youth members, telling them that they can write a good song as long as they base their lyrics off of sex and drugs.

Rappers nowadays give children a false reality about what is really important in life. Obviously, sex and drugs should not be anyone's- especially a child's, top priority, and with lyrics that glorify them it gives children a bad mindset. The youth need positive influencers in society, because the popularity of these rappers tempt them into wanting to become like them. With influencers like these remaining dominant  in the media, the downfall for our youth is near.

Advertisement Visuals and our Brain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gLwMqcs_NZA&app=desktop Target, is a well-known brand that we all know and love, including myself. But even Target follows the same marketing techniques that all companies share, convincing us to buy their product by over embellishing what the product is and giving us a sense of community and visuals we can relate to that make us want to invest in them. Target's approach to this common technique though, is one that I find very interesting and unique. A trend you can find in Target's advertisements is the use of pretty and colorful visuals that give off an aesthetic-like vibe. In the Back to School ad (link above) Target color coordinates certain parts of their ad using the technique known as "Gestalt:Subliminal Persuasion"  by using oddness and intensity of color to exaggerate the product and put our minds into a surreal type of world. The angle of the camera which constantly revolves around only showing the key components of the ...

Reflection

Blog after blog, week after week, I am forced to finally sit down and reflect on all of my decisions in the media and what media means to me. As we are all very aware of, media is around us everywhere, are more than I'd like to admit it has in some ways taken over my life completely. We are all under the influence over what society brings us, and media is the most common form of getting these messages across to us. Personally, I consume media several hours a day. Sometimes during school, sometimes in the middle of schoolwork, and definitely as soon as I get home or right before I'm about to go to sleep. I think nothing of it, but I do think it is messing with my brain in both positive and negative ways. When consuming media, I feel updated and knowledgable about the world around me, and connected to society and people I know in real life. But, sometimes when I'm on media, I feel pressured to fulfill a certain standard, to be someone I'm not in order to be accepted by ot...

Two Perspectives: NFL Protesting

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/11/28/trump-america-is-fed-up-with-nfl-national-anthem-protests.html https://www.nytimes.com/2017/09/24/sports/nfl-trump-anthem-protests.html On the topic of NFL protests in recent media, Fox News and NY times have created articles on the same topic addressing Trump blasting NFL players for taking the knee during the national anthem.  NY Times' foundation of their article was about how teammates/players still stand strong and united despite insults from U.S. President Donald Trump. According to NY Times, " The protests were part of a massive show of solidarity in the face of harsh criticism by President Trump, who had called for protesting players to be fired." On Trump's Twitter account, on September 24th 2017, he tweets, " Sports fans should never condone players that do not stand proud for their National Anthem or their Country. NFL should change policy!" The response from NFL players, however, was ultimately send...
