On the topic of NFL protests in recent media, Fox News and NY times have created articles on the same topic addressing Trump blasting NFL players for taking the knee during the national anthem.
NY Times' foundation of their article was about how teammates/players still stand strong and united despite insults from U.S. President Donald Trump. According to NY Times, "The protests were part of a massive show of solidarity in the face of harsh criticism by President Trump, who had called for protesting players to be fired." On Trump's Twitter account, on September 24th 2017, he tweets, "Sports fans should never condone players that do not stand proud for their National Anthem or their Country. NFL should change policy!" The response from NFL players, however, was ultimately sending a message to Trump that the protests are a symbolism for those who do not have a voice, and telling people in the world that they are not alone.
On the contrary, Fox News does not give players a voice but instead Trump himself, saying how his colleagues at the White House support him and that what he is saying and do is completely right and just. In another tweet on November 27th 2017, Trump says, "At least 24 players kneeling this weekend at NFL stadiums that are now having a very hard time filling up. The American public is fed up with the disrespect the NFL is paying to our Country, our Flag and our National Anthem. Weak and out of control!" The point being brought up here is showing a side that claims that America is in favor of Trump and not of players, and that the ideas from NY Times' article is false in the eyes of Trump.
In my opinion, I am in favor of the player's perspective, agreeing with the context presented by the NY Times. Several people, particularly minorities are living life filled with oppression, violence, and hate, without a voice; and kneeling during the anthem is not intended to be an act of disrespect, but instead as a way to spread awareness to issues that are seemed to be forgotten and disregarded on a daily basis.
